Shine!

Being an artist, I am often presented with a challenge of convenience.
My family frequently goes to family/community events in Long Beach (I say community- because it's the Laotian community that I'm talking about) - and, if it's a birthday, without fail, I will hear my mom say these words:

"Hey Sarah, can you make a birthday card?"

And almost always, it's about 20 minutes before they have to leave out the door.
Now, I know making cards isn't such a big deal, but I care about the things I make, and it takes me a bit of time to think of what to do.  I always wish she would give me an hour or something, but that is never the case.

Anyhow, I was able to conjure this up - it was for a girl turning 5 years old.  I think I made the character too young, but whatever.

And then I quickly scribbled color on it with whatever markers I had (added white gouache in the hair).

Turned out better than I expected.

  1. I think it turned out really well. :) You are the resident artist/Renaissance woman! Glad you always rise to meet each challenge. :) Nice work!

  2. If I received a card like that now I would execute a pas de bourrée and a kick ball change then a pirouette and then a bow and then I would frame that card and have it buried with me.
