A study from Caravaggio
On Sunday I got to go to LACMA with my friend, and we went to go see the Stanley Kubrick exhibit and the Caravaggio exhibit. The Kubrick exhibit was GIGANTIC - there was so many things to look at, it was incredible. As for the Caravaggio exhibit, it was an equally large gallery - but unfortunately, they only had 5 of his pieces. It was still an impressive collection and display however, and I'm very glad that I went.
This sketch was done after his painting "St. John the Baptist in the Wilderness". It was very beautiful to look at in person - with such dramatic lighting that I had to draw it to help myself remember how he used the shadows. I didn't quite finish the sketch, but it did the job for me at least. (For my own sake).
